Thermo-chemical Renewable Energy & Environment
research group of UC3M

The tr3e (Thermo-chemical  Renewable Energy & Environment) research group at the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) develops advanced thermochemical technologies to transform biomass, waste and renewable resources into clean energy, renewable fuels and valuable products.

Combining state-of-the-art experimental facilities with high-fidelity numerical modelling, the group investigates energy conversion processes from the molecular and particle scales to full reactor systems.

Our research focuses on:

• Biomass, waste, plastic and metal conversion through gasification, pyrolysis and  related thermochemical processes.

• Multi-scale modelling spanning molecular, particle and reactor scales.

• Heat and mass transfer in advanced energy systems.

• Fluidized-bed and fixed-bed reactors for renewable energy applications.

Our mission is to generate scientific knowledge that enables the development of efficient, reliable and scalable thermochemical technologies, accelerating the production of renewable fuels and supporting the defossilization of the energy and industrial sectors.
